The teacher will suggest in certain ways to work with the postures that are most helpful to you. And will guide when’s good for you to begin working on the next Asana(s).

Ashtanga Vinyasa is always started by a prayer dedicated to Patanjali Maharshi.
Then comes Sun Salutations A &B, followed by series of Asanas. These Asanas are practiced in a flow which is called as VINYASA.
Vinyasa means ‘to place in a special way’.
The essence of Vinyasa is the synchronicity of breath and movement.

People often mistaken Ashtanga Vinyasa as Ashtanga Yoga. They are not the same.

Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga uniquely combines the three fundamental elements together during the practice known as the “Tristhana of Ashtanga”. These elements are:

  1. Breath (Ujjayi breathing)
  2. Bandhas-Internal locks (Moola, Uddiyana and Jalandhara bandha)
  3. Advanced Drishti (Gaze point)
